Hal Logan: Chief Executive Officer of Third Set Partners

Hal Logan is the President and CEO of Third Set Partners, and the Dealer Principal at BMW of Fairfield. Hal never expected to be in the automobile business. But once he got a taste of the challenges and opportunities it provides, he decided to make it the focus of his career. And over the past 20 years he has driven major innovations that have had a significant impact on the industry.

Hal spent the first phase of his career in print and electronic media, ultimately becoming the CEO of Vicinity, Inc. – a Silicon Valley company that provided Yellow Pages, maps and driving directions. After the successful IPO of Vicinity, he opened a consulting practice, and entered into an engagement with an Atlanta-based “skunkworks” that grew up to become AutoTrader.com. His work with AutoTrader led to a 10-year career with AutoTrader’s parent company during which he served as the company’s senior executive in Marketing and Strategic Planning, and as CEO of the company’s technology subsidiary, Manheim Interactive.

In the Marketing role, Hal led the company’s repositioning from brick-and-mortar auction company to provider of a full range of remarketing services, both traditional and online. In the Strategic Planning role, he spearheaded a process that turned the company’s vast warehouse of data into a strategic competitive asset. And at Manheim Interactive, Hal led the teams that pioneered online selling and turned the Manheim Market Report into the industry’s leading provider of wholesale market vehicle valuations.

In his most recent role, Hal served as Chief Executive Officer of BuyBook Technologies, Inc., a vehicle valuation software company that was acquired by AutoTrader.com in 2014. Under Hal’s leadership, BuyBook Technologies grew from an idea into a $50 million company that revolutionized the vehicle trade-in process.

Hal is a member of the board of directors and chairman of the compensation committee of RepairPal, Inc. – the leading internet-based source of information about auto repair and service. Hal is Chairman of the board of directors of auctionOS, an Atlanta-based startup developing an operating system for independent auto auctions, and Chairman of the board of Learning Ally, a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping students with reading disabilities reach their full potential.

Hal and his wife, Etienne, have three grown children, two of whom live in Northern California. He looks forward to returning to the Bay Area, where he and his family lived for more than a decade, to oversee the operations of BMW of Fairfield, and pursue other new point and buy/sell opportunities to come.
