Car and Driver, one of the oldest and most respected automotive publications, just named the BMW 330e and BMW X5 xDrive45e to its list of “Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2023 and 2024.”

California drivers are leading into electric and hybrid vehicles in a big way. In April of 2023, it was reported by the California Energy Commission that “the state has passed the 1.5 million electric vehicle (EV) sales mark, about two years ahead of the original date of 2025.” So far in 2023, they have sold over 125,000 electric vehicles compared to the same reporting period in 2022, selling about 75,000 electric vehicles.

Even with the supply chain problems in the automotive industry after Covid-19, California still upheld these electric vehicle sales. Surely, this number will continue to increase as supply chain problems begin tapering off.

Car and Driver praised the 2023 BMW 3 series sedan for both comfort and sportiness. But the 2023 BMW 330e is a value-added proposition: “The plug-in hybrid 330e offers impressive performance and above average fuel economy…it’s so well-rounded, athletic and engaging to drive that it stands at the very top of our segment rankings.”

Praise was equally lavish for the 2023 BMW X5 xDrive45. Car and Driver said it “stands out for a blend of performance and refinement that’s missing from many crossovers.” Add plug-in hybrid capacity that “offers up to 30 miles of driving on electric power,” along with it’s “handsome, well-tailored cabin … [and] the quick, well-rounded X5 xDrive45e ranks near the top of the class thanks to its overall goodness.”
